• I’ve been running this plugin since the first WP.com release and to the extent it’s working it’s fantastic! Unfortunately there are a lot of tweets that I’m noticing even just in my own twitter stream that are not being “found” by the plugin and imported as comments.

    I have left the importer set to run every 15 minutes and I’m seeing no errors (where would I find them – is there a log?) and I am seeing some tweets imported … but there’s tweets which I think should be imported which aren’t. These can be seen in the regular twitter search function so they aren’t hidden or otherwise protected.

    The website is https://atmac.org/

    One example:
    https://twitter.com/museumfreak/statuses/1122663735
    Currently 23 hours old, references the page https://atmac.org/accessible-irc-clients/ without any URL shortening service but the tweetback hasn’t been picked up.

    Upon searching, I just realised that other examples mostly are of the form of shortened versions of https://OriginalPostURL?more_stuff_here. Is there any way I could set the plugin to look for these, given that the more_stuff_here is already known? It’s just the string “?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=twitter” I use for Google Analytics tracking of twitter stuff.

    Thanks for your help.

    I notice somebody else posted that missing tweets were picked up eventually – mine definitely haven’t been. The one I listed up there is still missing. I posted almost the same tweet twice today on the atmacjournal account – first with an is.gd URL and then with a tinyurl URL. The is.gd was picked up very quickly but the tinyurl one still hasn’t been detected several hours later.

    Neither of those tweets had google analytics markers on them, incidentally. I’d really like to get to the bottom of this – I’m happy to run debug code or anything else that might be helpful.

    I’ll have a look at that first one, that should be picked up… If you could do a print here of the content of the “shorturls” custom field for that post, I’d much appreciate that!

    As for the tagged links: those are hard… Probably not in any version soon.

    For the post:
    Post: https://atmac.org/accessible-irc-clients/
    There is no “shorturls” custom field. There are these custom fields which look possibly relevant:
    tweetcount – 1
    tweetbackscheck – 1232993285

    there is NO shorturls field?? hmmpf…

    I just checked and there’s no posts where shorturls fields are visible as custom fields visible in the “edit post” screen. I checked for 3 different blogs, 2 of which run 2.7.1 and the other runs 2.6.5 – should I be looking somewhere else for them?

    I don’t know if this is relevant, but I found that on my blog the yoast_schedule_tweetbacks() function kept picking up the ID of the last entry in the ‘Related Posts’ widget, instead of the actual post being viewed. So, every time the plugin was looking for tweetbacks, it was looking for the wrong post.

    Adding wp_reset_query() to the beginning of that function seems to fix it. Removing the sidebar widget would probably have the same effect, though it may depend on your theme too.

    I’m not using that widget, but thanks anyway.

    I bit of sql poking reveals the shorturl fields do exist, they’re just not visible from the blog – perhaps because they’re arrays?

    Anyway, according to mysql the shorturl field for that entry is

    a:18:{s:7:"tinyurl";s:25:"https://tinyurl.com/8s47je";s:4:"isgd";s:17:"https://is.gd/f5TW";s:5:"bitly";s:18:"https://bit.ly/VXxP";s:5:"snipr";s:22:"https://snipr.com/9px7n";s:5:"snurl";s:22:"https://snurl.com/9px7n";s:7:"snipurl";s:24:"https://snipurl.com/9px7n";s:5:"adjix";s:21:"https://adjix.com/26sh";s:4:"advu";s:17:"https://ad.vu/26sh";s:4:"zima";s:16:"https://zi.ma/385";s:9:"permalink";s:40:"https://atmac.org/accessible-irc-clients/";s:4:"trim";s:17:"https://tr.im/6cg2";s:6:"isgdga";s:17:"https://is.gd/itEN";s:7:"isgdrss";s:17:"https://is.gd/itEO";s:10:"tinyurlrss";s:25:"https://tinyurl.com/aqy2dw";s:8:"bitlyrss";s:18:"https://bit.ly/LrPh";s:8:"sniprrss";s:22:"https://snipr.com/bcrrf";s:8:"snurlrss";s:22:"https://snurl.com/bcrrf";s:10:"snipurlrss";s:24:"https://snipurl.com/bcrrf";}

    Please ignore the *rss and isgdga entries – they’re my hacks to pick up google tracking coded tweets as described in my post about it.

    I’ve also been experiencing missing Tweetbacks. I’m ready to write this plug-in off… which is a shame since I love the concept. That said, does anyone know of a reliable alternative?

    I’m missing a lot as well. I have NOT set it to ignore retweets, and all of them seem to be missing. If I have it set to ignore my username and my username is included in the retweets, could it be ignoring the tweet (for CONTAINING the username not just coming FROM the username)? I haven’t had a chance to look at the code yet.

    I have also noticed some missing tweetbacks when the tweet used one of the following URL shorteners:

    • ow.ly
    • srl.in
    • sn.im

    Is it not possible to find tweetbacks when they use these URL shorteners?

    I miss the Tweetbacks also. It does not funkitoniert simply. I use Tweet This for transmit the Tweets
    https://www.meikys-podcast.de

    I don’t know if this is part of the same problem, but after poking around in the code for a while I discovered that the same post permalink acn be shortened to a different URL from an API call from Joost’s function, an API call from TweetDeck and the web interface (I tried is.gd first, then bit.ly).

    I’m pretty sure I’m not doing anything crazy here – the following 2 short URLs both resolve to exactly the same long URL:

    --16:09:40--  https://bit.ly/hPvDP
               => 'hPvDP'
    Resolving bit.ly... 128.121.254.201, 128.121.254.205, 128.121.254.129, ...
    Connecting to bit.ly|128.121.254.201|:80... connected.
    HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 301 Moved
    Location: https://secondhead.co.uk/poshcast/bob-hoskins-is-a-fraudster/ [following]

    --16:12:27--  https://bit.ly/13bGoO
               => '13bGoO'
    Resolving bit.ly... 128.121.254.201, 128.121.254.205, 128.121.254.129, ...
    Connecting to bit.ly|128.121.254.201|:80... connected.

    So when Tweetbacks searches for mentions of the short URL it’s searching for the wrong thing. Sometimes. Maybe.

    Have the URL shorteners started serving up different URLs to different user agents? Or is it something to do with the character encoding making them think it’s a different long URL entirely?

    Yeah i have noticed the same Problem as ihatemornings – bit.ly seems to create multiple short urls for the same permalink ??

    I guess I will just disable this plugin, because right now it does absolutely nothing.
