• I am trying to edit a link in the sidebar of the homepage. When I go to appearance and widgets, the available widgets appear but there is no where to drop them. There are no sidebar options or footer options. The sidebar and footer does appear on the homepage but I’m not sure where to go to edit them. Help?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hi there, I assume that the Appearance > Widgets at one time had the widget areas, is that correct? This is what I see when I activate Motif and go to Appearance > Widgets: https://cldup.com/SBQPDlApPo.png.

My first suggestion is to log out of WordPress, clear your browser cache and cookies and then log back in and take a look.

The other think you can try is to go to Appearance > Customize > Widgets and try and edit and/or add/remove widgets there.

Let me know how things go.

Yes. There were widget areas there when I initially designed the website. I could drag and drop the available widgets under areas like Main Sidebar, First Footer Sidebar, Second Footer Sidebar, exactly what you sent in the screenshot.

I tried logging out of wordpress and clearing my browser cache and cookies and then log back in – that didn’t work. Still no widget areas.

When I go to Appearance>Customize?Widgets and try to edit and/or add/remove widgets all that shows in the window is the Facebook widget info. I do have a Facebook widget in the footer area – center. But there is a logo in the left side of the footer area and contact information on the right. And a main sidebar widget with photos and text. There is no where I can edit these widgets.

Any other suggestions? I am at a loss?

Did you try going to Appearance > Widgets in your admin dashboard?

Have you tried a different browser than the one you normally use?

Have you made any customizations to the theme files, or added any custom CSS? If you have added custom CSS, save all of that to a plain text file for safe keeping. If you made changes to the theme files, it could be that something there has caused the issue.

Have you installed any new plugins lately, or have any of the ones you have been updated lately? I would suggest disabling all plugins you currently have installed and see if things go back to normal.

Try switching to Twenty Seventeen theme, the default theme, and see if you can see widgets and widget areas in that theme. If so, it could be that something in the Motif theme files has been corrupted, and I would suggest reinstalling Motif.

If none of the above works, then at Dashboard > Updates , re-install WordPress.

I was able to fix the problem. When I disabled the Facebook plugin the widget area reappeared and I was able to make needed updates. Thank you for your help.
