Hmm it seems you are placing in the code wrongly and not within the loop and hence the notice.

https://github.com/lesterchan/wp-postratings/blob/master/wp-postratings.php#L89 points to $post and if $post is null, it will throw an error.

Sorry I have no idea, since I don’t use that combination. As far as I can tell, it will not work in sidebar because it is not part of the loop.
