Installed plugin. Spam registrations stopped. However, plugin is also preventing new legit registrations. When a new user attempt to register, after entering the correct Captcha info, gets the message “Your comment may be spam or you need to activate javascript.” Needless to say, javascript is active. Please help, thanks!

Have you tried deactivating all other plugins? It is almost certainly a conflict created by another plugin

Note you don’t need a capcha plugin with lh zero spam as my plugin is already protecting against spam registrations…

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated. Unfortunately, the other plugins are not the issue. I use very few of them and when deactivated the problem is still there. Any other suggestion?

(The captcha I use is not a plugin but it’s built within my theme. I understand I could do without it with your plugin, but I don’t mind it and again it doesn’t interferes with LH Zero Spam)

Then you have a theme which includes functionality. This is bad practice btw (all functionality should be in plugins, themes should only do presentation).

As such try it with a default theme. If the problem still persists let me know and I’ll investigate further.

I understand, however, the theme I’m using is an extremely popular one (quite likely the most popular in its class) used by thousands of people, which also means that finding a solution to this problem would make your plugin useable by an even larger crowd. Furthermore, the theme allows users to add their own javascript, hence the solution could be as simple as adding a little code.

Please let me know if you would be willing to look into this as it seems that we could both benefit from it. Thanks again.

Not free of charge I’m sorry. I have limited time. If you are willing to pay, email me on shawfactor at gmail dot com

A better approach would be to change your theme. Themes that have bundled functionality are not following standard WordPress practices. Unfortunately this approach is popular amongst paid themes and many are popular due to being well promoted.

Sorry for the delayed response. Well, as you pointed out this issue has not been resolved and critizing other’s themes won’t get us far. After all, there are plugins that prevent spam registration and that work with my theme. I was just hoping to be able to use this one because of its simplicity, but now you are asking me to pay for something that would eventually benefit you as well. I guess I’ll contact you through your email to discuss further. Thanks

    Wtoo,

    1. I wrote, published, and support this plugin in the repository as a community service.

    2. There are different ways of blocking spam. My approach (a JavaScript nonce) probably doesn’t play well with your themes built in functionality. Other approaches may. But it is a standard view amongst reputable developers that themes should not include functionality. In fact WordPress is designed to keep presentation and functionality largely separate (hence my criticism of the theme you are using).
