Hi Byron,
I’m afraid it’s not possible with BTF as it is right now.
I would not recommend it either as it opens up the possibility to very easily mess up your permalinks and result in many 404 errors. All it would take is for a taxonomy to share a term slug with another taxonomy, post, page or custom post type and you will have issues.
It would be better if it was possible to just make sure the taxonomy slugs are relevant to the resulting page. It’s also better from an SEO standpoint. I think this makes more sense cars/maker/audi/model/a4
than ′cars/audi/a4′ to a robot (altho this is just my speculation).
It’s also worth weighting the benefits to the negatives. By removing the taxonomy base you open yourself up to 404 errors just to get a slightly cleaner url. But does the user even care that much about the url? Check some major clothing companies, their urls are usually way way more ugly and it still seems to go pretty well for them ??
If your issue is to make it easier for visitors to go directly to some specific resultpages (like in an ad campaign) you could always create some simple 301 redirects for those. like having mysite.com/get-audi
redirect to mysite.com/cars/maker/audi
. That’s what I always recommend companies I work with.
Best of luck!
