Upgrade vs. Fresh install
-
I have had my WordPress site since version 1.2. Along the way I’ve upgraded to 2.0.4. I am currently in the process of migrating to a new hosting provider (dreamhost.net) and was wondering what the best upgrade path would be? Dreamhost has a one-click install for WordPress 2.7. I was thinking about using that and then moving my database over from the old server but am not sure how well that would work.
Are the 2.0.4 and 2.7 database schemas the same?
I would like to make a fresh start but I don’t want to make a ton of work for myself. My current site has only a few customizations but they are php hacks and not particularly well documented.
My current plugins are:
Lightbox JS v2
WordPress Email Notification Plugin v2.3.1
WP-Print 2.20
ImageManager 2.4.1I could just run the upgrade on the old server, fix whatever breaks, and move the whole thing over lock stock and barrel to the new server. But then I’ll bring along possible legacy junk I don’t really need anymore.
Any thoughts?
