Widget not displaying properly

I’m running the Genesis Framework with an older XHTML Child theme. I installed WP News and Scrolling Widgets on a development site and setup a Page for News items https://www.petercruikshank.com/dev/news/ then I used the Latest News Widget to display a couple of items in a lower left widget area on my Front Page https://PeterCruikshank.com/dev. As you can see, on the Front Page, the title of the News articles appear (though I need to somehow change the font color) with a link to the article, but I thought it was supposed to display the actual text of the article in the Widget. Is my assumption incorrect? If so, is there a way to display actual text of the article in the Widget with a link back to the main News page?
