    1. Upon installing plugin, receive the following notice….

“To make your site as secure as possible, take a moment to optimize the Wordfence Web Application Firewall: [Click here to Configure]”

    2. Upon clicking [click here to configure] I am taken to the next page with the following message…

“We’ve preselected your server configuration based on our tests, but if you know your web server’s configuration, please select it now.”

The preselcted server configuration is correct so I click [Continue]

    3. I am then taken to a screen asking “Please download a backup copy of the following files before we make the necessary changes:”

I click “download” and then [continue]

    4. I am then taken to the “connection info” screen. I input my FTP hostname, username, password, and conncetion type and click [Proceed]

This is where the problem occurs. Instead of “proceeding” to anything, it takes me back to the screen asking about my server configuration that I already selected as mentioned above in step 2. I have followed this endless loop several times. I have cleared my cache without help.

Any ideas why this may be occurring?

    Thank you.

Just an update with more detail about previous issue….
    1. Site is using using PHP 7
    2. Site uses Amazonaws, so no cpanel access
    3. The “auto_prepend_file” on the “system info” page is listed as “no value” for local and master value.
    4. Site uses Apache + mod_php. Your software correctly auto-identified this.
    5. “Protection level” still listed as “basic” instead of “extended”.

    Hi,
It seems like you are using a specific “FS_METHOD“, not the default “direct” mode, I can reproduce this issue only with custom “FS_METHOD” method defined, so this issue has been reported to our dev team for further investigation (internal reference number: #FB4345).

For now, I think you will have to follow the “Alternate method” while setting up the firewall by adding a similar line to this one in “php.ini” file:
    auto_prepend_file = '/var/www/html/wp/wordfence-waf.php'

    Thanks.

Thank you for your reply. In trying to access the site through FTP to use “alternate method”, I get the following error on Filezilla…..

Error: Disconnected: No supported authentication methods available (server sent: publickey)
Error: Could not connect to server

If I cant connect myself, Wordfence cannot be expected to either. Does this tell you anything more you need to know? I assume I need to contact server support.

If you can’t connect to your website via FTP, then you will have to contact your hosting provider, and I’ll suggest to ask them editing php.ini file for you as well.

    Thanks.
