Limiting number of posts on the front page while using slider

Our site has been using Delivery Lite for some time. We use the post slider feature, which works great. Only issue is I want to limit the number of posts that will appear below it, without mucking up the slider itself. The documentation I’ve found on other sites seems to suggest modifying the variable that governs Delivery Lite’s slider. We post new articles about 4-5 times per week, so having this automated would be really nice. Any ideas/insight?
