Which Theme is this and what plugins

  • Hi all,

    I am new to wordpress and have recently set up a blog for my website.

    There were two issues – the theme does not look nice in reality (for example there is no blog roll at the right side) and secondly I installed some plugins – for social sharing, for comments, signing up for newsletter etc – but half of them do not seem to be working.

    Meanwhile I chanced upon the following blog which I liked very much – theme wise and utilities wise = https://thisgirlabroad.com

    I request to know what theme this blogger is using and what are some of the plugins she is using. I want to make my blog look like this one (mine is about education not travel)

  • TwentyFourteen Theme from Default WordPress Themes

    Plugins:

    Jetpack
    YARPP
    Mailchimp
    Instagram Slider widget
    etc

    And the trick to find out such things:
    Visit the web page.
    Hit Ctrl-U. In most browsers, this will open a new tab, where you’ll see the underlying html-code.
    Search for (use ctrl-F) “/themes/”. There will be plenty of matches, and the theme “slug” will be visible here.
    Many plugins announce their presence nicely in the html code. Search for “begin” and you’ll find marks about spots where certain plugins have injected useful things.
    You can find more plugins by browsing through the list of links to various CSS files. Those plugins that refer to their own CSS will be visible this way.
    But you won’t find all plugins this way. You’ll have to try a bit. But with the approaches above you’ll get a head start.

    Thanks a lot guys – that really helped – however my blog still looks nothing like her’s.

    For one the pictures are very big. Also the “sign up for news letter” and links to the other blog posts on the right are missing.

    Could you please tell me which plugins are those?

    I am such a basket case with technical stuff!!

    Also when i tried to test the blog post for SEO friendliness I got these comments –

    The focus keyword contains a stop word. – what is a STOP word?

    The focus keyword doesn’t appear in the first paragraph of the copy. Make sure the topic is clear immediately.

    A meta description has been specified, but it does not contain the focus keyword.

    Are these terribly important – if experts say so, I shall change my style of content.

    The bigger problem remains – my blog looks nothing like her’s – if i share my blog link, can experts tell me what changes and settings I have to implement to make it more visually appealing and/or like hers?

    YARPP was mentioned above (Yet Another Related Posts Plugin). Check the information about this plugin. It may be possible to include lists of related or popular posts in a widget.
    Sign up for newsletter… You might integrate with mailchimp, lookup the mailpoet plugin or something else, there are many options. I think Jetpack also has something towards that.

    A lot can be (and has been) said about SEO. I suggest you have a look at the web site of whatever SEO plugin you’re using. They may explain their terminology there.
    In short: SEO is going a lot towards that if you make a site people like to reaad and browse, where pages load quickly and navigation is easy to grasp, then you’re on the right way.
    Don’t let any machine-based general suggestions sway you away from your main task, which is to tell your story.
