  • Why is it necessary to produce an exact copy of another site that someone else obviously created for their own purposes? They clearly wanted something unique that didn’t look like any other site on the web, and now you have ripped off their work. How can you call this your theme when you stole the entire design from someone else? This is no different than stealing content from another blog.

that why i called it a clone. people who will use this theme would probably ( if not all ) want different from the original so its up to them re-design it by putting a little a bit of twist but not totally all.

Calling it a clone doesn’t make you less of a thief. If the original site owner had wanted their design released for public use, they would have made it available themselves. It is not yours for the taking. Why is this a difficult concept for you to understand?

I completly agree with Chrisber.Luckily I had a few minutes to waste, going to your site.I found this particularly funny.

In any case, please feel free to use this theme for your blogs; if you choose to modify this theme in any way, I would appreciate it if you could keep my credits in the stylesheet and a link in the footer. I will update this theme if i received some comment or suggestion for modification.

No way Jose, if I change the theme, its mine.

do you give credit to the designers of the site from which you “cloned” your theme. you have zero rights to give away someone else’s contracted, read paid, work, because you call it yours or a clone

good luck with the legal fees

geez got a heads up comment from the theme i made. well i understand what you trying to say chris. tnx for the comment though

Um, you completely ripped off someone else’s design and want to offer it as a WordPress theme??

IF you didn’t get permission from the owner, that makes you a jerk, my friend.

And possibly in violation of copyright, as well.

PS I took the time to send a message to toxiclab.org, in case they weren’t aware that you were doing this.

woah! i didnt know that. oh well i put the theme on trash just now. sorry for this. my apology to toxiclab.org owner, author and fan.

There is no actual need to be so abusive where each of you could have replied simply by just telling the man that in legal matters, he’s not allowed to rip off someone’s site design.
And even more you could suggest him to try a new unique one in the next temptation.
After all he was being honest telling that he did clone it.
Should I say that probably none of you was aware of that toxiclab site, before pauxcore posted it!?

    .:double post:.

Well, lesson learned, then — people get upset about this stuff, and sometimes even sue.

Now that he’s posted an apology, I’ve come to believe that Pauxcore just didn’t know that this kind of thing is very much frowned upon in the design community.

Pauxcore — don’t view your efforts as wasted time. Now you know how to create a theme, and can make one using your own designs.

I apologize in turn for reacting harshly, and commend you for realizing your error. You seem like a sincere person who simply made a mistake.

You can avoid this kind of reaction by taking a little time to understand the issues of intellectual theft, copyright, and the various kinds of licensing regarding digital design and the internet. Everyone borrows and learns from everyone else, but copying an exact design without permission is crossing the line.

And when you do borrow something significant (such as bits of CSS or other code), it’s common courtesy to credit the original author, at least in your code.

When you come up with some original designs — as I’m sure you will — come back and share them here. People here are generally supportive, so you shouldn’t feel that you can’t share future designs here.

PS Perhaps the owners of Toxiclab will be interested in the fact that you turned their design into a theme. You could approach them and ask.
