How do you make sure that such as H1, H2, H3 entries don’t end up merged into the body of the text? I don’t know what to look for in the stylesheet.

These are ‘block’ elements in HTML and browsers usually treat block elements in a way that prevents them getting mixed up with normal text. It sounds like you may have a theme or plugin conflict that’s causing the issue.

Can you show us a page with the problem?

Not at the moment, but since I have had the problem with a number of themes I suspect that some people have a talent for typoes.
