• Hi

Question about about the latest releases:
WP S3 Offload – Plugin Compatibility for Remove files from server feature ( Pro Version )
Image not being updated to S3 after resmush ( *Only if remove files from server is kept off in S3 plugin settings )
Retina Images @2x: Do not smush if auto smush is disabled

Can you explain what they are?

Notes: I am using WP S3 OFFload, Retina Images and Image Watermark.

I also have one additional questions:

    1. Does the newly-uploaded images get resized (create multiple size copies) and compressed before trigger upload to S3?
    2. Are we able to schedule the image to go through Watermark -> Retina image -> WP smush -> upload to S3?
    3. What happens to image alt text? do we have to add it to each individual image per image size?

    Brian.

  • Hey @bbbbho,

Excuse me for the delay in response, was suppose to answer it earlier, but missed it.

WP S3 Offload – Plugin Compatibility for Remove files from server feature ( Pro Version )

If you’re a user of WP S3 Offload plugin, they allow you to completely remove files from server and store on S3. Smush works good if the files are on S3 as well as server, but if the file are only on S3, Smush can’t smush the images.

But the latest pro version allows to smush even those images.

Image not being updated to S3 after resmush ( *Only if remove files from server is kept off in S3 plugin settings )

Earlier if you had to resmush image, the files were not updated on S3, the latest release fixes that, unless you’re using the “Remove Files from server” option, which again requires pro version

Retina Images @2x: Do not smush if auto smush is disabled

In previous vesions of Smush, retina images generated by plugin WP Retina 2x would be smushed even if Auto Smush was kept off, but that won’t happen anymore and it respects the auto smush settings for the retina images.

    1. Does the newly-uploaded images get resized (create multiple size copies) and compressed before trigger upload to S3?

Yes, if you’ve kept the “Auto-Smush on upload” on.

    2. Are we able to schedule the image to go through Watermark -> Retina image -> WP smush -> upload to S3?

That’s purely dependent upon how watermark/retina plugin hooks into. What plugin you’re using for Retina images?

    3. What happens to image alt text? do we have to add it to each individual image per image size?

That’s something you need to take care of, Smush doesn’t handles it.

    Cheers, Umesh
