Widget area not showing up despite following instructions

  • I’ve created a child theme and plugged in the short-code there as per instructions:

    <?php dynamic_sidebar( ‘footer’ ) ?>
    <footer id=”colophon” class=”site-footer” role=”contentinfo”>

    Then I went to Appearance>Widgets and the Footer area comes up on the right hand side of the screen – so far so great!

    I drag the widgets I want to it, but then when I live preview my page, nothing comes up!

    When I go to Appearance>Customise>Widgets, only the sidebar widget which is the default for the theme comes up (I’m using Sketch). I’ve asked this question in the Sketch Theme support but they told me to check with you as it may be a plug-in problem.

    What have I done wrong?
