I’m not particularly knowledgeable about web-design and such but I updated my html site for many years. 2 years ago I made a WP site with some help from a friend to get me started. Now I want to update my old html site with WP one. I use Windows 7. I used Xampp to redesign my site on my computer using the Devi theme. I keep the Theme and the few plugins; Monarch and Yoest SEO updated on a regular basis as is my version of WP. I used the plugin Duplicator to create the zip package and installer to try to migrate the site to the internet. I first had some warning when creating the package with duplicator but resolved that using a plugin WP-Optimize to dump the revisions and clean things up. I then de-installed WP-Optimizer. Duplicator then created the package with no warnings. I created a file with the created zip file and installer and used Fillzilla to upload them to my server. My web hosting is with 1and 1. I give in the url mysitename/the new WP file/installer.php. Instead of getting the installer to start up, I get the following error message:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or ‘}’ in /homepages/14/d26455562/htdocs/ClownTB-WP/installer.php on line 191
I have no idea what to do. I found posts by people with similar problems and the responses seemed to be that either the version of PHP being used is outdated or there is simply mistakes in the coding. How can this be with a modern updated theme and installer created by duplicator which supposedly is so reliable? Is this just a matter of correcting some of the installer code or do I need to try to find a substitute for Duplicator or what? Anyone able to help with an answer that a layman rather than a computer expert can understand.

  • Hey Tom,

The installer file may have not gotten fully downloaded, or possibly corrupted. The installer file should be a around 430K in size. If its not then it may have not gotten fully downloaded. If it is then something else is going on between the installer script and server (which is not common).

Try to download the installer file again and if you continue to get the same parse error then go ahead and submit a ticket here. And I can have a closer look at your installer file. Please refer to this forum when submitting the ticket.

    Thanks
