Incompatibility with static HTML pages?

  • In WordPress, I’m successfully using this plugin to fix an issue I experienced with the Avada theme where, on mobile devices in landscape, full resolution images are loaded. Sometimes there are 4 – 5 of them (each several MB in size) on a page, which is a problem for mobile users.

    However, with my setup for this particular site, WordPress pages must be saved as static / fixed HTML files using the Simply Static plugin. When viewing those pages (which are moved to a completely different server that doesn’t have WordPress running at all), the old issue persists, and it seems like nothing from Adaptive Images is working.

    Is this because the plugin has to actually be running in the background (which wouldn’t work in my case)?

    Indeed, the Adaptive Images plugin is a WordPress plugin that runs PHP code which, in turn, runs under a WordPress/PHP environment. It is impossible to use it directly in any other way. It could be adapted to do so, but unfortunately it would be too difficult to do so.

    Perhaps, in your static site, you could find a way to use the old Adaptive Images utility, from which the Adaptive Images plugin used to draw its initial concepts. However, this plugin has gone a long way since then.
