Just installed GD bbPress Attachments. I have it working nicely for logged in keymasters and moderators. Now I would like to set it up to work for bbPress anonymous Participants of the forum. I added a custom capability to the Participant role of Upload Attachments but that has not given an anonymous bbPress user the Upload Attachment form.

I added a new role of Forum Users, with all the usual functions and added Upload Attachments to the role, but that doesn’t show as a selection in the GD Attachments settings and I am not sure that bbPress will see this role the same way.

I also am somewhat confused in thinking that this plugin could also add attachments from WP Media, was this supposed to be a capability? I only see the ability to upload from my computer.

However, if it is not possible to give anonymous bbPress users this ability I would like to make it easier for the keymasters and moderators to do this image upload.

So this plugin solves half of my problem, making it easier for keymasters and moderators to upload images as a reply to an anonymous users topic. Our anonymous users can upload their images on the forum page via a NextGEN uploader that saves them in a NextGEN gallery waiting for approval.

Currently the keymaster needs to go into the dashboard and perform several NextGEN Gallery functions to get the image ready and then must open and insert them in the dashboard anonymous user replies. At least with this plugin they would only have to use the NextGEN gallery to prepare the image and then download it to their computer for uploading directly as a reply to the topic in the forum.

I can redirect the uploaded images to go to the Media gallery and if the Keymaster was able to add these as attachments directly from Media gallery into the forum as an attachment that would also be very helpful. I would not need anonymous participants to be able to use the GD bbPress upload attachment.

So to reprise. I need either anonymous participants to upload their own images into their topics or replies or give the Keymaster the ability to pull directly into the forum from the Media gallery and attach the images into a reply.
    Thank you, Matoca

Participant is not an anonymous role, it is a base role for all users. Anonymous users don’t have a role because the role is assigned to logged-in users only. I do not plan to add the ability for anonymous visitors to upload attachments, the plugin uses media library, and media library requires proper user role to add files, and that is why only registered and logged users can upload.

Also, plugin works with bbPress specific roles, so if you want to add custom role for plugin to use, it has to be registered as a bbPress dynamic role.

    Milan,
Thank you for the quick response.

I understand the problem with WP roles and anonymous users. I know this is really of function of bbPress and those developers make it work really well. It certainly has limited privileges but it has been ideal for our purposes, which is to maintain their privacy on line. Akismet is amazing at catching the junk. Clearly though, users like a “facebook” like experience and get confused by not registering or being able to upload photos of their dogs. The NEXTGen uploader helps protect the site by uploading to a gallery that saves them for approval.

Your plugin has made it much easier for the admins and keymasters to put images directly into the replies in the forum.

Currently the first step to get photos into anonymous topics or replies is that an anonymous user uploads a photo via a NEXTGen plugin into a NEXTGen gallery for approval. That NEXTGen gallery is set to run these images as a slideshow on the forum sidebar. The admins have to go into the gallery and uncheck the image for approval first. Then to insert photos into anonymous topics or posts we have to open the topic or reply in the dashboard and insert the photo directly into the reply using that NEXTGen gallery. It is time consuming.

So your plugin has helped us shorten this process, we can now avoid having to insert the photos into the topics or replies in the dashboard. When the anonymous user uploads an image and we go into the gallery to approve it we can also download the image locally at the same time and then use your plugin to put it directly into the forum. That really saves us time, thank you, this is a really big deal to us!
    My best, Patrice
