Subscriber Unable to Upload Image

As admin, I can create new listings and add images. The subscriber role can create new listings but is unable to upload an image. It processes the upload and even shows a link to delete upload, but the upload does not actually appear.

UPDATE – Upon further experiments, I a subscriber can upload some images but not others. The file size of all of them is under 2 MB…actually under 1 MB. What file formats can be uploaded? Are there dimension restrictions? Any other ideas to help me troubleshoot who the upload image tool works for some images and not others?
