I just uploaded ewww-image-optimizer and clicked activate. I then went to click on another admin page and I got this message:

    ‘Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator at root@localhost to inform them of the time this error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.’

I now cannot access any admin page at all, just keep getting that message. I have searched online for answers, but I don’t understand any of the solutions being said – and it all seems to be reliant on being able to access administrative features.

I downloaded Filezilla so that I could access the plugin files to delete/deactivate the plugin causing the problem, but I cannot seem to connect the the my site.

For Host I put in: dundonalddevelopment.com which is the site name and then put in my username and password with port 21.

    But it is not connecting.

I am at my wit’s end trying to get this problem sorted. Please can someone help me.

  • Your username/password combination you use to login to WordPress backend is not the same as FTP username/password. If you don’t have it (you should have got it when you purchased your hosting), you’ll need to contact your hosting support.

    Okay thanks.

The problem is, I have taken over as admin for the site after the last person I worked left. The person I am doing this for doesn’t know anything about the running of the website, so I don’t know if he has this information about who hosts the site.

Ah so, well if you write url of that website, it shouldn’t be a problem to find out who’s hosting it.

I went onto icon.whois.com and found out that we’re with webfusion. Problem is I have no log in information.

Then let your friend contact Webfusion, provide them with some proof of ownership, payment receipt or so, and they should provide FTP and/or cPanel credentials.

    Thanks

I was able to contact the last administrator and they were able to give me the details I needed.
