Installation stuck

Okay, when I run the install.php, all I get is a screen with the WordPress logo on it. The databases all seem to set up okay, but because I haven’t been given a password, I can’t actually log in to the resultant weblog. And when I look on the wp_users table is empty. I tried inserting a row manually, but I presume I need the user activation key because it wouldn’t allow me to log in with the details I gave.
