Moving From One Host To Another: Sanity Check
-
Hi everyone –
So I’ve got a fun night ahead of me.
I’m ditching my current host (Westhost) for another (Bluehost).
Over on the Westhost box, I have an old version of WordPress running (2.1) using mysql 4.1.22.
We’re going to 2.6.2 (via Fantastico) on the Bluehost box with a mysql 5.0.45 server install, it looks like.
I’m thinking that the only way to do this will be to create dummy install of WordPress 2.1 over on Bluehost, import my old tables there, upgrade that dummy install to 2.6.2, export those tables into a file, then import them into the real (Fantastico-sanctioned) install of WP 2.6.2.
(I don’t really care about themes and plugins – I’ll be redesigning the new install from top to bottom once the database and content is stable.)
Is there an easier way? I’d rather not try to upgrade the live install from 2.1 to 2.6.2, hence the “middleman” dummy install. I can’t see any other way to do it other than what I’ve just outlined.
Thanks,
E
