Is it possible to setup a subscription this way?

Or at least, once they’ve made a payment, can I use their ACH payment method to add a subscription to their customer profile in Stripe that charges the ACH method they setup?

I’ve got one vendor that would like to pay ACH, and may have more clients and vendors in the future. We do most stuff on a subscription basis. So I’m wondering if this can work for that?

Also a followup question: on your website it says Stripe + Plaid is only 0.80% per transaction. Does that mean Plaid is free? I’ve messaged them about pricing because their pricing page is not clear on this. No reply yet.

I’d rather not put a bunch of time setting this up, only to find out I can’t afford them. Just wondering where that info comes from. I’d like to use them, but am unsure of this one.

Also, your contact form doesn’t have an option for this plugin, to ask a question about it specifically. Only your other, previous plugins. Thanks!

    Hello @thefiddler!

No subscriptions at this point. Actively working on adding to subscriptions to our LittleBot Invoices and this will be a payment method but no ETA on that right now.

Plaid is free up to a 100 users, yes. ACH transfers, as you’ve discovered, are much cheaper. Fees from stripe are on this page: https://stripe.com/us/pricing.

Basically, .80% and no more than 5$ a transaction.

Cool. Thanks so much for your replies.

But just to be clear: if a client makes a single purchase with a card, their card info is stored in Stripe and can then be used to setup a subscription from Stripe’s UI. Is it the same with ACH? Like could I use your plugin to have someone make the first month’s payment, then manually add a subscription afterward in Stripe, using that ACH payment method they’d authorized?

I’m 99% sure that stripe supports ACH subscriptions. I would double check with them.

In the current version of the plugin, payments do not generate a new customer which is needed to create subscriptions. This is, however, about to change. PLaid has changed their API (Again). Ill be pushing out an update later this week to address the API change and changing things so a customer is created on payment. After that, you’re free to do whatever in your strip admin.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks so much Justin! Both for the plugin and for the insight and clarification. I’ll reach out to Stripe to verify the subscription thing.

I’ll eagerly await the next release later this week! Hopefully, (depending on what Stripe says) it’ll then the solution I’m looking for.

    Thanks again!

Just thought I’d follow up in case anyone else is looking for this info.

Stripe said that as long as a customer and payment source is created by the ACH payment, then you can do all the same things you normally would be able to with a payment source, including setting up a subscription with it.

Thought I’d follow up. Were you able to update to work with Plaid’s new API?

Also, have you found their support to be slow? I’ve waited many days, even weeks with no replies to tickets.

Still under development. And yes, their support can be quite slow.

They got me approved last week. So I’m good to go. Any ETA on the updated plugin?

I’m not trying to be pushy. I appreciate your work and the plugin. Just trying to figure out if I’ll be able to try it out soon, or should bill my vendor a different way, this time around?

Currently testing 1.1.0 right now. Hoping to this pushed live and docs updated tomorrow or early next week at the latest.

    Sweet! Thanks for the update.

I saw the update and applied it a little while ago! Thank you.

    Just a few quick questions:

    1. So how does it collect the customer info? There’s still just the amount and notes fields. Does Plaid get it from their bank? Or how does that work?

    2. Does the amount field happen to have a variable assigned that could be set in the URL? Like /payment-page-name/?amount=200

    Plugin Author justinwhall

    (@jwind)

Presumably so you can send the link to a customer and the amount is pre filled? No, but that’s a good idea and I can make that change soon here.

    Thread Starter Tevya

    (@thefiddler)

Yes, exactly. So I can just send them a link with the amount pre-filled.

So how does it get their email and such for Stripe?
