What Is <head profile=”https://gmpg.org/xfn/11″> ?

    Hi,

    Was wondering what the profile actually does to my WP site: profile=”https://gmpg.org/xfn/11&#8243;

    Does anybody have any information on this, is it safe to remove this and simply change it to <head> ?

    That is telling the browser that your site supports XFN.

    And yes, it is safe to remove it, although it doesn’t hurt to leave it.

    So what exactly is XFN? I did visit the site prior to this also but I can’t make head or tail of what it actually is, i’m half asleep at the moment I think..

    Hahah… well I hadn’t heard of it either until now…

    Apparently, apart from adding that bit to the head, you add a special rel attribute to links that link to your friends, co-workers, family members, girlfriends, etc.

    For example you would link to your friend Bob like this:
    <a href="https://myFriendBob.com" rel="met friend">Bob</a>

    Oh I see now it’s just to help the semantic web and interjoin data somehow.

    I wonder who would actually use:
    crush – Someone on whom you have a crush!!

    Hmm I wonder if there are any benefits for me apart from I can say my blog is semantic !

    Just use <head>

    I am writing a theme and wondering if I should include this profile, it seams like a lot of themes do.

    I wouldn’t use it unless you knew what it did.
    Do a little research on it and make up your mind as to whether you’ll be making use of it, or just pointlessly linking to something.

    As for me, I won’t be using this on most of my themes (unless someone points out a good reason I should), but I can think of a few times when it would be ridiculously cool. ??
