• I began using this plugin a year ago. Recently, the author started serving 3rd party Ads to me and my website users as a part of the plugin. While I might have tolerated the Ads if they actually worked, however, the update and Ads actually caused our dashboard to become blurry and nonfunctional for random users. The plugin author advised a laborious troubleshooting technique of disabling plugins and creating new users for each plugin being enabled.

While I’m always glad to help troubleshoot functional issues with plugins, I won’t help a plugin author better serve me Ads. I would much rather spend that time transitioning over to another Custom Sidebars plugin that doesn’t serve Ads to me or my users.

    Best of luck to you!

  • Thank you again for the feedback. As stated in the support thread we do not have 3rd party Ads. We only have two ads in this version of Custom Sidebars and one of them is dismissible. WPMU DEV owns Custom Sidebars so they are not 3rd-party.

I hope that helps clear up the confusion.

The issue is that your ad’s don’t dismiss AND they look like 3rd party ads:

“Warning: Some of your plugins may be slowing down your site. Run a free security and performance scan with WP Checkup.”

Thank you for the feedback yesterday. The banner ad is now dismissible. While our current model does not interfere with your guests or visitors, we will continue to look for other ways to make our free plugins sustainable without ads for future releases. We know there are other options and would love for you to continue using Custom Sidebars, but if you move, I hope you find a plugin that meets your needs. Thanks again!

    Hello @amasen,

We just released a new version of the Custom Sidebars plugin where the banner ad is removed from the admin area.

Please try it out and I do hope you will reconsider your rating here ??

    Cheers,
    Nastia

Update: We discussed the banner ad in a recent development meeting and released Version 3.0.3 with the banner ad removed. Thank your for your patience while we figure out how to best serve our users.

As our ad content is very limited at the moment your reviews mean a lot to the success and continued development of Custom Sidebars. Would you consider adjusting your rating to reflect the changes? It would be a great help to us moving forward.
