  • Probably something to do with your permalinks or your .htaccess file. Which webhost are you using as well?

It is quite possible that they have a module disabled preventing the permalinks from working correctly.

=> How is that even possible?

It seems like you’ve set “Permalinks”, but your .htaccess file is not updated yet. Check to see if your .htaccess file has WordPress’ correct rewrite rules, and report back.

    My webhost is Dreamhost.

I couldn’t find an .htaccess file (didn’t look through every single subdirectory, but looked in any place I’d think it might be).

    Just to throw this in:

I had previously installed WordPress to the subdirectory barbelith.halphillips.org by accident instead of halphillips.org . Dreamhost set me up so that halphillips.org works as my website now, but in FTP, I’ve found that WordPress is still installed to the barbelith subdirectory, while halphillips.org is empty. Through trial and error, I’ve found that it needs to stay that way– which is fine, as long as it shows up as just halphillips.org on the Web, but I don’t know if it’s causing some of these problems.

I’ve contacted Dreamhost about moving WordPress to halphillips.org and getting rid of this troublemaking barbelith subdirectory once and for all– but meanwhile, that might shed some light on this problem.
