Cannot get any lightboxes to work

    I’m about to get a nervous breakdown, do I do hope any of you can help me.

    I just installed a new version of WP on my local server this morning and added an image to the example post to try things out. That’s all I did. The idea is to have any linked images open up in a lightbox. Sounds easy, right?

    Well… apparently it’s not. I’ve tried loads of different lightbox plugins and I just don’t get a lightbox. No matter what I do, I always have the image open up in a new screen.
    The latest one I’ve tried is Simple Lightbox and looking at my source I have all code in place, right where it should be. My console isn’t much use either, I’m not getting any errors or warnings whatsoever.

    I’ve searched high and low and it seems like so far I’m the only one experiencing this issue.

    I’m not using a custom template, all I have so far is a default installation of WP, the most recent version.

    If anyone out there has an idea what the source of this problem could be, I’d be eternally grateful!

    It could be a plugin conflict. Do you have a number of other plugins installed, too? Deactivate them all and see whether the lightbox works? Or, switch your theme to one of those default ones like Twenty Seventeen theme and see whether the lightbox works?

    As I’ve mentioned in my post, I only have a very empty and basic WP version on my local computer, so there’s no link to share. There are no other plugins installed other than supplied with WordPress itself. All I did after installing WP, was add a linked picture to the example post and install lightbox plugins, removing them once they didn’t appear to be working.

    Luckily, I managed to get things working with the Responsive Lightbox plugin. As long as I don’t check the ‘conditional loading’ option, it works! Yay!
