• Hi there,

I have recently designed a web page for a friend. His brother installed wordpress and installed it as a directory called ‘wordpress’. So the url read https://www.example.com/wordpress which isn’t ideal because that’s not his web address.

So I went into Settings > General and made the mistake of removing the /wordpress from both URL’s.

I have since been able to get wordpress back up by changing the wp-config.php file.

Now I would like to reconfigure the files so that the ‘wordpress’ is removed from the URL. What’s also standing in the way is that there are already existing files sitting the root folder of the website including a .htacess file and I’m not sure how everything should ‘look’ for it to work properly.

I have followed this link to remove the URL but everything falls apart again https://surpriseazwebservices.com/remove-wordpress-from-url/

There are also files in the root directory that may be stopping the process from working.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • The best way to move it would be to install All-in-One WP migration plugin on your website, export the file, install wordpress in the root directory, install this plugin and import the files. I recommend you this method because it is most easier for you and the one with less risk of messing something up.

Thank you for the reply systemsbox.

After the drama of losing the site temporarily I’ll give it a break before trying anything else.

Good to know what to do next time, I’ll have a look at All-in-One, thanks heaps.
