• Hi there, I have just set up my blog with an admin account and now I have been using it for a few days, I have added a new user called test. the default for a new user is subscriber, however when the user logs in, it takes them to the admin page, is this how it should be.

i don’t want new users (anyone other than myself) to be able to post posts, just comment on them and access posts that i have flagged as private etc.

    can anyone help?

    thanks

yes, well its how it is, which may be different from how it should be.

theyre taken to their profile page, by the way.

if you want, why not login as that person, and see for yourself what they can do. I would have already done that, if i were you.

ok, i did log in as the test user, and i didn’t look properly, i just saw the similarly laid out page and thought they were the same. Is there anyway, i can redirect the new user not to their profile but to the blog homepage, I would like them to edit their profile, but, I would like them not to be bombarded with all wordpress related news other than my own.

    thanks for the quick reply.

You can try the themed login and register plugin. That gives some different options for this very thing (i.e. you can set it ti redirect back to the site) You can also get the Dashboard Editor plugin to remove that stuff. Role Manager might even help with this as well, but I’m not sure.

Are you looking for something like this?

When a user logs in, or out, it returns that user to the page they were viewing when they selected the “login” or “logout” link, and not the dashboard. That is all it does. I am currently using it on WP 2.6.2 with no problems.

As doodlebee suggests, this one might ease the adjusting of permissions for your user levels.
