    Hello there.

I’m really hoping someone can help with this as I’ve been trying to fix it all day and night and now tearing my hair out – somewhat ironic given the website content!

    https://rogersofchell.co.uk/wordpress/gents/

I have a wordpress theme installed and site built in Visual Composer. The row ID’s are set (e.g services) and the custom links are set e.g #services

It all works fine when the page is set to the front page, the target URL shows correctly on hover and works when you open in a new tab, but clicking a link always redirects me to the home page rather than scrolling to the corresponding section.

Tried lots of things: Changing and saving Permalinks, changing theme (works fine with other themes!), reinstalled the theme, deactivated all plugins, renamed plugin folder, made a new .htaccess all to no avail.

Out of ideas now so thought I’d see if there’s any ninjas on here that could have a look at the code to see what’s going on?

    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

  • Hi,
Have you tried to paste the complete link in the menu item, instead of #gentsservices you put https://rogersofchell.co.uk/wordpress/gents/#gentsservices ?

Hi Systemsbox, thanks for taking a look.

In Appearance->Menus the custom link is just a hashtag and name of the row id. (e.g #gentsservices)

I’ve just added ‘Shop’ as a full URL link and that also goes to the front page.

The ‘Check out our Services’ button also has the same problem so don’t think it’s custom link related.

Strangely enough, the ‘back to top’ link works as it should. Thanks

Can you disable all plugins and see if it works then, it is possible that plugins are causing each other to malfunction. If it does work try to enable them one by one and test if it works to see where the problem is.

Hi systemsbox, yes I’ve tried disabling all plugins and also tried renaming the plugins folder (temporarily) as i read somewhere that inactive plugins can also cause issues – didn’t make a difference unfortunately.

The links work as they should when using another theme so guessing it must be some problematic code in the theme itself. Reinstalling the theme didn’t help.

I’ve submitted a ticket to the makers so hopefully they can get to the bottom of it.

    Thanks again

No problem, good luck! Get back here if they give you a precise answer, so you can help other people that encounter the same error.

    Hi Systemsbox.

Fixed! The makers of the theme sent me a new .js file to upload in the theme/scripts/ folder. Not sure what the exact problem was as they haven’t explained yet – just relieved they sorted it! ??

Great! I’m glad you solved your problem.
