Cannot login wp-admin

    I would need your help. I did run a functional WP installation and Database until recently with the technical setup below.:

    MAC BOOK
    MAMP 4.1.1
    PHP 7.1.1

    Multisite
    WordPress 4.7.2
    Child Ken Version: 3.4.1
    Ken Version: 3.7
    Art Bees Visual Composer Version 5.0.1

    I made functional backups of wordpress folder and database. After running into a problem some days ago I tried to revert to my last backup which seems to work in principle with the only problem that I cannot login to my admin area.

    my situation:

    1) Site is functional and can be accessed normally
    2) When trying to enter localhost/wp-admin my password does not work. I do not get access, basically nothing happens. It acts different from when entering a wrong password (the login field does not shake left&right to indicate a wrong entry). It just stays empty without shaking.
    3) When trying to reset my password following the “forgot password link” I do receive the mail, I can change to a new password, but when trying to enter that new password again the situation is the same.I cannot get access but it acts different from when entering a wrong password.
    4) I tried changing my password directly in my database via phpmyadmin, which seems to work fine as usual, but the new set password does not grant me access to my wp-admin.

    Please let me know if you have any idea what could cause such behaviour and how I could solve the issue. I am happy to provide more specific information if needed.

  • Well, this is not necessarily the case here, but it might be that your backed up files from wp-admin folder didn’t download correctly, so it doesn’t check the password correctly or even doesn’t check the password at all. Can you try replacing those files and see if that solves the issue ?

    thank you for your reply. The thing is I tried with various combinations of backups (WP installations/databases) that did work before I ran into the problem, so I can confirm the backup files should be functional and I did try to replace with other backups.

    My theory is that some change was done to the MAMP server itself.
