• I would like to know how to show the sole preview of the newest post in the main page.

Now in the main page I see the whole posts, and they are very long.

I would like to be showed only a little part of them.

  • insert the “more” tag where you want post to cut off.
    <!–more–>

    if you want more flexibility

    Why it doesn’t work?

It appears in the post now as <!-more->

I saw that this tag works only if added in the HTML, not in the visual mode anyway is ok.

Is there a way to make it automatic after a default amount of characters or words?

I read it two times, and I know how to enable the tag <!–more–>, but I still cannot understand how to make it automatically.
Sorry for this question which may sound for you obvious, but maybe my English is not so good to understand it… ??

Excerpts show up on WordPress through two methods. One, by replacing the template tag the_content() with the_excerpt(). Then the explicit excerpt you have entered in the Administration > Write > Post SubPanel will appear, or the first 55 words of the post’s content. Users can then click on the title to continue reading more as you have enticed them with your summary introduction.

    That is one paragraph

So I have to replace something in the template php file/files, and then whenever I put a “more” in the post, it will cut the post after 55 words automatically?

What is your native language? Maybe we can communicate better.
