Freshen up the database by creating a new one

Hello!

I’ve been running my blog on wordpress for a few years now. A couple of months ago when I updated to a new version permalinks stopped working. Looked through the forum a couple of times and found a whole bunch of solutions that didnt work. After a move to a new server I cant change the header image any more. I starting to think my database is breaking down.

I’m thinking that once 2.7 is released maybe I could just create a new database with a new wordpress installation and just move my posts and comments, leaving everyting else fresh. Problem is that I’m no guru on mysql. How would a do this?
