Yesterday I started having problem with the view for this theme. On a desktop, the view is a mobile view rather than the usual desktop view and it is also not configured correctly. The view had lots of white spaces and very small text. How can I correct this?

Also, is there a way to set up that the users can select to have either desktop or mobile view?

    Many thanks!

  • Hi @nancep!

When I view your site, I see an enlarged version of the Jetpack Mobile Theme:

Fictive is a responsive theme, so you could go into your Jetpack settings and disable the Mobile Theme module. It’s under Jetpack > Settings > Appearance

Also, is there a way to set up that the users can select to have either desktop or mobile view?

Jetpack’s mobile theme actually has this option, there’s a link at the bottom so I’d look into why that theme is triggering on desktop devices:

    – disable, then re-enable the module
    – make sure Jetpack is updated to the latest version
    – disable other plugins to check for a conflict
    – contact Jetpack support: https://jetpack.com/contact-support/

Many thanks Chad.I should have the latest version of Jetpack which I upgraded recently. I am not sure if this was the reason why I have had a whole string of problems with my website. There may be other changes being made which I might not be aware of.

Among these were my latest post not being refreshed on different devices including PC, Mac, mobile and tablets (showing different posts from different times) and the latest being this desktop showing mobile theme. I have not been able to resolve any of these issues as yet…so going through them one by one.

I have tried your suggestion of disabling and re-abling the mobile module but it didn’t work. I will have to work on other plug-ins over the weekend. But I have shot an email to Jetpack in the meantime and see how they can help.

I am a non technical person, only knows how to write and post…so any help in resolving these desktop vs mobile and latest posts not appearing on webpage will be most appreciated.

    Many thanks!

Definitely try disabling all of your plugins first to see if that helps. The refreshing issue sounds like caching on the individual devices – unless you have a caching plugin of some kind active.

Chad – happy to report that unselecting the mobile enabled the desktop to look normal now, though it took around 15 mins to half and hour to be refreshed.

My bigger issue that is unsolved now is the refreshing issue. I have in place a cache plug-in (WP Cache by Automatic) and have cleared all cache on my devices and yet I still havre the issue. The posts might get refreshed at one time or other but anywhere between 30 mins to 24 hours. I am really stumped on this one.

Any help will be much appreciated.

    Many thanks!

That’s likely the affect of the caching plugin.

Caching plugins basically save a ‘snapshot’ of different posts and pages on your site. Rather than looking up the post in your database each time a visitor requests it, the plugin just serves up the snapshot because that can be faster.

The “drawback” is that if you make an update, and view your site – you’ll see the snapshot, which may not have been updated yet.

Clearing your caching on your device doesn’t solve the problem, because this particular cache is on your server – not on your computer, tablet, or phone.

You should be able to look under Settings > WP Super Cache to delete your current cached files if needed.

You can also visit that plugin’s support forum for more detailed help:

Many thanks for all the advice and help, Chad. Much appreciated. I didn’t have time to work on the issue. But miraculously, it righted itself! I wonder what happened!

    Glad it’s sorted out ??
