• I’ve successfully installed a local host with MAMP and WP to develop a website, but one dialog box came up that no one mentioned in any instructions: A dialog asked if mysqld should accept incoming network connections. (This is a setting that can be turned on and off in the Mac OS System Preferences > Security and Privacy > Firewall.)

For my purposes, I would think not; I’m not trying to host a server on the net, just test a site on my machine.

It did make me wonder: Can a local host installation open any security problems, especially inadvertently for a novice not fully aware of all the functions and consequences?

Not really. I believe you need to port forward your router for it to be visible from the outside. Either way, it won’t just be an option that you will accidentally click. It is more complicated then that.

I don’t know for sure, but I would think that mysqld is MySQL which would mean that I would enable it.

Thanks! I would think there’s more to it than just one click, but, being a novice, I wouldn’t really know.

Yes, the MySQL Server Daemon, I believe is what the “d” means.
