• I downloaded WP twice and tryed to unzip each one twice. The XP SP3 compressed files wizard quit half way through each time. Do I have to use a real unzip program?

thats like asking a question about asking a question. ??

if the way you are doing it isnt working, then you need to find another way, yes?

I had to leave the computer before I got a chance to try another unzip program. If WordPress uses a zip algorithm that is incompatible with the tool that comes with Windows that fact should be mentioned on the download page.

    sure, but it doesnt.

i dont have any zip program on my laptop, im running SP3, and have had no troubles unpacking the zip, using the built in compressed folders thing.

Weird. The wizard failed all 4 times at the same place and took a Windows Explorer window with it. I will have to try a different unzip program when I get back to the computer.

I downloaded WS again and rebooted the computer. XP’s extraction wizard still crashed after taking forever. I downloaded IZArc and it worked fine and only took a few seconds. There is something strange with the current WP zip file.

I was going to try WinZip but changed my mind. Then I discovered that WinZip’s setup program can not be exited and keeps the computer from rebooting. I had to power down to get rid of it.

Sounds like your computer has lots of other issues on it’s own that you may need to sort out. There’s nothing wrong with the WordPress ZIP file.

Also, I usually recommend 7-Zip instead of WinZip. 7-Zip handles more formats, and it’s free.

for you. not for anyone else. if there were something strange countless others would be having the same problem, as would I — since I already stated Im running the same OS, and the same SP, and using the same built-in util on my laptop (which I happen to be sitting in front of at this very moment).

I have to agree that my computer must be strange. So how can the compressed folder wizard be fixed when everything else works fine?!? No big deal because I found a way around it. Just annoyed that somehow Windoze screwed up again. I am not willing to spend three days rebuilding a computer to figure out why the extraction wizard died.
