I’ve tried searching for a solution to this, but I’m not entirely sure what my search terms should even be. If you have a suggestion, let me know.

Here’s the problem. I upgraded to 2.6.2 recently and now when I login to the dashboard (me or any of my users) it logins in fine. Then I click something, like Write or Settings (anything really) and it asks me to login again. So I do. Then say I type a post or click something else. It asks me to login again. WordPress asks me to login after each thing I do within the dashboard. It’s driving me and my users crazy.

Oddly enough, I upgraded another site I have, the exact same way (from the same version, to the same version) a few weeks ago, and have not encountered this problem at all with the other site.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Could a rogue plugin be causing this? I was having trouble with the subscribe2 plugin. Thought I had it resolved, but… who knows.

    Thanks in advance!

Clear your browser cookies. Close the browser. Reopen it. Then login again. See if that fixes it.

    KK, will do.

    Now I can’t login at all. ??

I deleted the cookies for that site. Should I delete all the browser cookies?

    Thanks.

The cookies for the site should work, but cookies can be finicky things to get rid of. Be sure that you killed the cookies for the site, because bad cookies can cause login problems.

I killed the cookies for the site. Not in the list of cookies anymore. However, wordpress seems to think that cookies are turned off, even though I double checked and it says to “allow cookies.”

I’m using FF3. On IE, it lets me login… but when I click anything, nothing happens.

Very strange… normally I have zero problems with wordpress. Maybe it just doesn’t like me today. :\

    Thanks for the help.

Make sure you didn’t accidentally block the cookies when you deleted them. I’ve done that in Firefox before.

Thanks for the tip, Otto. You were right.

I checked again. More like poked around until I found where it said to disable cookies for that site. Seriously have no idea how that happened, but it’s a computer…which usually remains a mystery to me. ??

I can login… again. Yay. It still logs me out after an action and asks me to log back in.

When I log back in, the action I previously asked of it has been completed. Which, at least, is progress, but very slow progress.

I’m beginning to wonder if this has to do with another error I’ve seen a lot recently: WordPress database error: [MySQL server has gone away]

    Me again. ??

I know it sounds unbelievable, but it seems like the site is working fine today. No multiple login requests. Just speedy action. I’m breathing a sigh of relief for now. No idea if I changed anything or prodded anything into working… but… maybe I should just hush and not jinx it.

    Thanks again Otto!
