insert from url not working for media

  • So now that GoDaddy has updated WP to the current version it appears that the insert from url function no longer works as it used to. I had it set up to link to a photo on my google photos site, and it would preview the photo and allow me to direct to another link and edit descriptions. It worked fine.

    Now I try to do this and it won’t preview the photo it only displays the description text and then links that text to the photo. The pre-existing items all still work fine. So what’ happened here? Where did this functionality go?

    Ok after calling GoDaddy and having them look at this issue as well across like 4 other platforms it appears that this is a bug in WP.

    What’s going on is the Insert Media From URL function is carrying out an Insert Link function as if you clicked the button Insert Link on the toolbar in the editor.
    As none of the fields that were present in the Insert Media From URL function are there and the only field is the one for the Insert Link function.

    So how long does it take WP to fix stuff like this?

    Really everyone? Almost 2 days and nothing from anyone? So no one else uses the Insert Media From URL function besides me in the entire WP community?

    Apparently you have to link directly to the object and not the scripting [as on google photos] that encompasses the photo AND the UI around it. I still haven’t gotten it to work with 360 photos or videos yet….

    This thing worked just fine before the update on GoDaddy.
