I tried to add a new theme. I used the default theme files without any changes, but when I go to DESIGN and THEMES, I still only see Default and Classic.

I have read the documentation about adding a theme.

I created a folder named theme1 in the themes folder where classic and default are stored. I uploaded the following Default files to theme1:

    header.php
    footer.php
    sidebar.php
    index.php

Any ideas what might be wrong?

    Jim

  • Your theme NEEDS a style.css file for WordPress to recognize it as a theme. copy over the style.css from the default theme and modify the comments at the very top with your own information and you should be good to go.

I had loaded a blank style.css, but just to be sure, I uploaded the default style.css. No change. So I entered a URL to check that my theme folder was in the right place. Only the default/classic themes were in the theme folder.

I contacted my server support people. They found that I had missed part of the directory structure when I created the folder. They moved it to the right place and the theme is working. My server support people are great (hostrocket.com)

How do I indicate that a problem is resolved, or does someone else do that?

On the right – change the status in the dropdown + click Change.
