I wonder if any one can give me a bit of advice about Google Images? At the moment none of the images from my wordpress blog are coming up. (The only images that do come up are from an older movable type blog still on my domain).

My blog is at https://www.tonymcnicol.com. I’ve only started preparing the images properly for the last few posts (file names, alt tags etc), but I would have thought a few might come up. Google text search has indexed all my posts.

I know Google Images takes a while, but I don’t want to wait months to find there was a reason they’ll never get indexed!

I’d be very grateful for any suggestions. I’m a photojournalist and very keen to get my sample photos indexed by google.

We don’t control or have much of any knowledge of what Google does.

My advice us to go here: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools

Register your site there, use their tools to get more info. Most things you can figure out through that.

Otto, thanks for replying but I have done all that already. Basically my question is: is there anything obvious I have done wrong which would stop google seeing or indexing my images?

… The question doesn’t make much sense. I mean, you can’t block Google by accident or something like that. And blocking Google images specifically is actually kind of a pain to do.

If you have a website, then the default is that Google will index it. Unless you’ve taken specific steps to block them, it’s not blocked.

And if you have blocked Google, then the webmaster tools site will very explicitly tell you so. If it does not, then it’s not blocked.

The posts are definitely indexed, its just the images in the posts that don’t come up on Google Image. I guess I am just going to have to be patient.

    Thanks

Something changed a couple months ago related to google images and hits on my website. I have seen a very sharp dropout of hits incoming form images.google.com. According to awstats I was getting close to 2000 hits/month from images, last month I had less than 200.

It appears something changed on google’s end but either way I’m affected and I’m not sure what needs to be done to fix it.
