    getting an error message saying plugin already exist in a directory

    how can I fix’

    You’ll need to access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/plugins/ and delete the directory for the plugin that claims to still exist.

    Then you’ll be able to install the plugin normally from Plugins > Add New in your site’s Dashboard.
