Can’t access dashboard – permissions

Having installed, I can see the front end OK, but get the following when I try to access wp_admin

Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access /wp-login.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

In desperation i have set all permissions to 777 (obviously I’ll fix that later), but it makes no difference.

Help pls
