Change the month names for archives

I’m sure it was discussed here somewhere, but I don’t seem to be able to find it.
I need to change just the monthly archives to another language, without installing languagepack. The question is: where are the month names stored? This thread is talking about wp-config-extra.php, but it applies to some older version of WP only. Where can I change the month names in 1.2?
