I submitted my WordPress theme 5 weeks ago and is still awaiting to be reviewed. Can I pay someone to review the theme? It doesn’t appear themes are reviewed in order of submission. I have read some theme review times are over 2 months?!?!?! I spent over a year developing my theme and I’m feeling a bit impatient. Thanks.

Can I pay someone to review my theme for the directory?

    No. Gosh, no.

Seriously, do not go in that direction. If you do two things may happen.

    1. Your theme will not get approved
    2. You’ll possibly just irk the volunteers

I’m sorry you are having a rough time getting traction on your theme. Generally themes are reviewed and approved in order. I believe there’s something like a 5 month wait time for themes to be approved.

    Yes, that does suck.

I get that you’re frustrated and many people are with the theme review system. But it’s 100% staffed by volunteers. There’s a massive queue for themes to get reviewed and while the system is not perfect, it is setup that way to try and guarantee the quality of themes in the repo. There’s never been enough people to review all the themes. That’s just the way it is at the moment.

The Theme Review Team is aware of this and they’re working on ways to automate some of this process.

Now for a side question of mine: why are you trying to host a theme in the WordPress repository? What’s your motivation?

If it’s “I have great opensource software and want to share that with the community” then cool. 5 weeks really isn’t a big wait time when you look at everyone else in the queue.

If it’s “I’m looking to generate sales leads to sell my premium version” then you’re in the wrong place. Please consider just marketing your theme in one of the many commercial repositories out there. Those online market places have nothing to do with this place.

Anyone looking to make their business off of anything in these forums is ignoring the man in the watchtower yelling “ICEBERG!”

Note that I’m not accusing you of any ill will but please do not offer to pay anyone for anything in these forums. That’s just not how these volunteer forums or opensource project works.

If you want to ask more questions then I suggest you consider getting a WordPress Slack account using these steps.

    Slack

Once you do you can join the Theme Review Channel in Slack.

And directly (and politely) ask there about the status of your theme. I’m not on the Theme Review Team (they work amazingly hard for the users), I’m on Support. They may have some insight to offer you about the status of your theme. I’m pretty sure it’s just the queue backlog.

    Edit:
As it’s been pointed out to me by others, you can always host your theme on your own site as you are already doing. There’s really no harm in your not having a theme hosted on the WordPress repository.
