Changed image size – Plugin gets confused

    Hi,

    My “large” image size was previous defined as 964px. I uploaded some 1920px images and of course they failed to render retina “large” because they were 8 pixels too small. So I changed the image size definition to 960px. Now…

    1. Uploading new 1920px images works perfectly, they generate the correct retina image.

    2. Hovering over the “L” box in the Media > Retina manager correctly shows “large (1920×1440)”

    3. Clicking into Details on one of the images that failed to render before, still shows “The Full-Size image is too small (1920×1080) and this size cannot be generated. Please upload an image of at least 1928×1084.” (I have paid for Pro so this panel is not restricted or anything)

    4. Clicking “Generate” does not generate the “large” image.

    Clicking “Refresh” changes nothing.

    Hi Karl,

    That’s maybe because the metadata related to the image hasn’t changed. Retina doesn’t mess with it, but it uses this information to generate the Retina sizes. When you change the Media settings in WP, actually this metadata become un-sync. I think this is an issue of WP but it never has been addressed.

    Can you try using Regenerate Thumbnails and run it on those images? That will force WP to re-create the proper metadata.

    Sorry for the delayed reply, apparently my email notifications from wp.org aren’t working.

    It took me a while to realize that “Regenerate Thumbnails” was a separate plugin and not a built-in feature.

    Running that on the image that wasn’t working did solve the problem. Thanks! I guess consider this solved.

    For the future I guess it would be useful if you could integrate whatever it is doing to regenerate the metadata into the wp-retina-2x “Generate” button.
