Added Excerpt to page, but can’t get it to show on homepage widget

    but used pages instead of posts for the main landing points on the homepage. All the homepage boxes are taking their text from the first few words of the page they link to. So I added some code to give the pages excerpt boxes. However, the Genesis Featured Page widget (unlike its ‘featured post’ equivalent) has no option to choose ‘please take the text from the excerpt box, not the top of the page’. So I am no better off. Any brilliant ideas for getting the content of my excerpt boxes onto the homepage? I ideally want to stick with pages for their hierarchical qualities.

    I’m not sure how to edit the widgets as you described, but might the Genesis Featured Page Advanced plugin be an acceptable workaround? I’ve not used it personally, but it seems like it might do the business for you.

    That sounds brilliant except it says it’s only compatible up to 4.6.1 and I’m on 4.7 – if I load it up anyway to see, is the worst that can happen that it just won’t work – or do i risk letting in bugs? Thanks for the quick reply!

    Well, that’s the $64,000 question! In theory, if it’s not compatible with 4.7, it should just not work. In my experience with installing and testing plugins, I think it’s pretty unlikely that it will destroy your site.

    That said, it’s worth testing the plugin on a local install or a staging site. That way you can see what happens when the plugin is activated without risking anything on your live (production) site.
