• About 6 months into starting my blog (www.evanswanson.com) I would like to customize my permalinks so that it goes by “/%category%/%postname%/”.

However, when I go into settings, then permalinks and make the change, it screws up all my previous posts so that I can no longer visit them. Any wuggestions for a way to implement this for all future posts without losing all my old content?

  • What was your previous setting? If it was the default it should work – those always work.

If you’re referring to my permalinks setting then yes it was default. However, it is my desire to change it from default to a custom permalink: “/%category%/%postname%/”

My problem is that when I make the change it messes up all my previous posts and they no longer become accessible.

I think it has ot do with .htaccess or something?????? Not sure, I’m an idiot, any ideas?

    The mandatory reading: Using_Permalinks
    As I said above:
    a) the default always should work even if you set a custom one
    b) the settings applies to all post, even if they are 100 years old!
