Fails to smush renamed files

I’m having a similar problem. When my site was hosted by other webhosts it had a different file path protocol, along with images uploaded to the existing host’s server. When I try to Smush photos which had an original name and now have a different name/filepath, SmushIt is looking for the original photo file name/path and not finding the current one. I don’t even know where it’s picking up the original name since I can’t find it either in my current server file directory or in any photo html coded in the original post.

I just tested image optimization after renaming couple of them by using Media File Renamer plugin but I was unable to replicate this issue, all the images were smushed without any issues.

Can you attach some screenshots of the errors and could you try clearing any server side caching and then re-checking images in WP Smush panel?

But I did clear my cache & Smushit is still looking for a file at the wrong filename & filepath. The filename you see in the screenshot is NOT the correct/current filename, which is https://www.richardsilverstein.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/01/robertson.jpg. So I’m not sure why it’s searching for the old name and how to get it to find the current file.

Could this have anything to do with my changing recently to SSL & using ‘https,’ rather than ‘http?’

When I realized that my “unsmushable” files were all named with something like “150×150.png” at the end, I thought that perhaps the problem was with the thumbnails behind the scenes. I used the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin to regenerate all of my thumbnails and then WP Smush seemed to work just fine. All of my files are now successfully smushed.

Because I cannot recreate the error at this time, I unfortunately cannot provide a screenshot for you. Here is the order in which I did the things that seemed to produce the error originally, so perhaps you can recreate it on your side …

1. Uploaded media files.
2. Installed the Media File Renamer and Regenerate Thumbnails plugins.
3. Renamed some files but forgot to regenerate their thumbnails.
4. Installed the WP Smush plugin.
5. Tried to smush all media files — errors!

Please let me know if this helps. If you are unable to recreate the problem, maybe I can try again.

Thanks for the additional info, I did some further tests but I was still unable to replicate this issue.

I had a look at the WP media folder after using Media File Renamer and the plugin renamed the thumbnails as well, it’s possible that the issue happened if there was a glitch during rename process and you ended up with only main image renamed while thumbnails kept the original name.

If the issue does come back please let us know.

@richards1052 HTTPS shouldn’t be causing such issues, could you please try regenerating your thumbnails as @s7jordan suggested and see if that works for you.
If it doesn’t please start your own thread and we will further investigate it for you.
