How to restore tar backup to HD to just recover posts?

My blog is deleted but I want to use some old posts in a new WP blog hosted by bluehost. I have a tar and zip backup from the old blog. How can I recover just those posts from the sql database (as a non-programmer)? Is there an app for that? Or can I start a new FB blog with a different name and recover to it, then download the restored posts individually? Then delete the blog? Haven’t found any info at my humble level on this.
