• I just installed NGG and cannot figure out how to link a single thumbnail to a gallery. I want to pull up the gallery in the thickbox effects instead of showing a list of pictures. Right now I get a list of pictures and I have to click on one of these thumbnails to pull up the effects window.

Use the link below to see an example:

    https://thegarciahouse.awardspace.com/?page_id=7

The bottom line is that I do not want to see a list of pictures I just want one thumbnail to link to the gallery through effects. I tried using an album which does create a single thumbnail. But when you click on the thumbnail, it also takes you to a list of pictures instead of the effects screen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

  • Have you considered using the Flashviewer-Plugin for NGG?

I tried the flashviewer. The problem becomes that I have to create a separate page for every gallery with the code [simpleviewer=5]. That means that I would have a main page that has the thumbnail and then I would have to link that thumbnail to the page that contains the flashviewer code. So I could potentially have hundreds of pages. At least this is what I came up with.

The nice thing about the way nextgen works is that I do not have to create a separate page for every gallery. I can create an album and the thumbnail from the album will automatically link to a new page that holds the gallery in list format using the current template. However, it would be nice if clicking on the thumbnail would take you directly to the effects window instead of a list of pictures.

I see what you mean. Still some code is always needed to determne the desired bahviour. And the standard options, so far, are either gallery (many pictures), slideshow or imagebrowser.

You might be able to use the following combination to tweak something you want into your website:

Under “Gallery” -> “Options”, choose “Show ImageBrowser”.

Set the “Number of images per page” to “1” and you should end up with just one thumbnail that will open the imagebrowser when you click it.

Side effect will, of course, be, that you’ll end up with one single page for each picture which might be a bit odd but, at least, does automatically what you want.

However, I’d prefer putting the one-word code on a page, and choose the effect I want.

Thanks for your help. You wouldn’t happen to know what code I would need to use to get the desired outcome?

If you mean php – no, don’t. To me, php is much like Klingon (and dont es around with Klingons …). ??

Sorry, if I was bit unclear – with “code” (or “one-word-code”) I actually meant setting up individual pages with a tag, e.g. for “SimpleViewer”.

But the procedure described above with the existing NGG-options will lead to what you want without any mess in the code.
