• Hi,

I can put most images into my Media Library, no problem. But images specifically sized to 300x250px show up as blank, white thumbnails. I can delete them, reupload, change caption-alt-text-description, etc. with no luck seeing a thumbnail.

Every other size I have tried (like 400x300px) works correctly. In other words, other sizes show up with thumbnails in the Media Library before and after I get the blank, white thumbnails in Media Library.

Wordpress 4.6.1. It is impossible to use Media Library effectively with blank, white thumbnails.

  • Are you able to view the thumbnail by directly pasting it URL into your browser’s address bar?

When I put the media into a page or a slider, I see the 300×250 image on the page or slider, even though the thumbnail is just blank white.

In the Media Library, when I click “Edit” on the blank white thumbnail, I see the 300×250 (full size) image.

If I understand correctly, you want me to paste the URL of the thumbnail into a browser, but I’m not sure where to get the address of the thumbnail from.

    Thanks,
    Kyle

Check your uploads path in Settings->Media. It should be blank in most installs.

Additionally, you can try the following:

Access to your server through FTP.

Select an image folder. For instance, I will choose the “2015” folder. What you need to do here is change the file permissions to the numeric value “755”. Make sure to select the options “Apply permissions change to subdirectories”

This procedure will force thumbnails to be recreated or re-linked. But make sure you do this for each image folder. Don’t try to change the permissions of the “wp_content” folder. You need to repeat this process to each image folder which are usually created by Year

No upload paths are shown in Settings->Media in 4.6.1.

I can upload/edit/delete images through WordPress and all work except for 300×250 sized images. There is no FTP access to this account. Do I really need to create an FTP account to check perms if I can upload/edit/delete all images other than 300x250px?

    Thanks,
    Kyle

Good, it should be like that.

No. Sorry, I read “all images”, my bad. That’s a strange problem. May be you can try to disable the theme you are using and any image related plugin (if any) and then try to upload an image of that resolution. Additionally clear your browser’s cache

I just created and uploaded a new image 250x250px. WordPress creates the thumbnail for that size just fine.

My Media Settings are as follows:
    Thumbnail size 150×150
    Crop thumbnails is checked.
    Medium size is 300×300
    Large size is 1024×1024
Organize into month and year based folders is checked.

I suspect it is an issue with the 300×250 image size. Can anyone else upload a 300×250 and get a thumbnail image?

    Thanks,
    Kyle

Yep, no problems. Maybe it’s your image that’s corrupt somehow? Try to save and upload this to your site:

Since my last post I’ve added about 20 images of other sizes to my library with no problems.

All of my 300×250 images generate a blank thumbnail. The png you linked says 300×250 on my desktop, but when uploaded to WordPress, it generates a blank thumbnail too.

    Thanks,
    Kyle

Update: Nothing I do with themes or plugins fixes this problem. Even reinstalling WordPress does not fix the problem. I suspect it is a bug in 4.6.1.

We cannot delay the site release any further due to this problem. My boss had me change all the images from 300×250 to 250×250 (VERY time consuming). After this work-around, all the content in the Media Library contain thumbnails.

    Thanks,
    Kyle
